LEARNING OUTCOMES

🔵 🔴 🟡 Course description

The purpose of the course is the study of emotions at a micro- and macro-sociological level. Emotions are examined as social constructions, but also as objects of social control, negotiation and social change with reference to class, racial and gender categories. The emotional dimensions in the relationship between man, space, environment as well as the policies that shape this relationship are also analyzed. Emphasis is placed on applied empirical research, which approaches emotions through the sociology of interaction.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • describe the role of emotions at a micro- and macro-sociological level

  • mention factors that affect the social construction of emotions

  • apply Goffman's theory of impression management

  • analyze the key features of theoretical approaches to symbolic interaction
