🔵 🔴 🟡 Course description

The course examines the role and potential of the performing arts (with emphasis on performance) as pedagogical and social tools for empowerment, self-awareness and expression in contemporary social reality, focusing on the stages of higher education and adult workshops. Through a theoretical approach, experiential learning and group discussions/analyses and laboratory experiments, students explore the integration of basic sociological theories into practical methods of teaching performing arts. The course includes lectures, workshops, analysis of texts and examples, as well as a diary of reflection and recording of experiences with the aim of crystallizing critical thinking in relation to the pedagogy of the performing arts.

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  1. understand basic theoretical principles of aesthetic education and conceptual art in relation to the performing arts.
  2. recognize the relationships between art, culture, and the empowerment of individuals in the contemporary socio-political landscape.
  3. analyze pedagogical methods that utilize the performing arts to develop critical thinking and creativity.
  4. apply teaching techniques using theater, dramatization and other performance practices in adult workshops.
  5. interdisciplinarily connect the performing arts with curricula, seeking to integrate art as a tool for learning and social connectivity.
  6. organize and design educational programs aimed at aesthetic education and experiential learning.
  7. evaluate examples and practical applications from the modern university and the performing arts.

  3. Importance and role of dramatic art in education. Scenarios and programs
  4. Organization and management of performing arts programs in education in Greece: Higher Education adults
  5. Organization and management of performing arts programs in education abroad: Tertiary-Education. adults.
  6. Methods of teaching performing arts. The didactics of performance as a practice of resistance.
  7. Methods of teaching performing arts. The return to the body: bodymind practices.
  8. Methods of teaching performing arts. The return to the body: bodymind practices.

  • -Attendance in 10 courses 30% (proportionally counting attendance in courses starting from 2nd lesson)
  • -Presentation of the Educational Microteaching Scenario November 4 20% *Progress
  • -Implementation of a teaching scenario project in a school (20-minute micro-teachings) 30%
  • -Reflection diary 20% deposit in eclass (February Exams) 10.02.2026
TEACHING - LEARNING METHODS
  • Face-to-face
  • Use of PowerPoint and audiovisual examples
  • Support of the learning process through eClass with weekly provision of audiovisual material, links, photos, extra bibliography and related information.
  • Meetings with school leaders for practical exercises.
