Alexandros Efklidis (PhD) is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Performing and Digital Arts, University of the Peloponnese. Born in 1975 in Thessaloniki, Greece. He holds a Bachelor in Theater Studies from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1993-1998) and a postgraduate degree from the Institut d’Etudes Théâtrales of the Paris III-Sorbonne Nouvelle University (D.E.A., 1999-2000). In 2007 he completed a doctoral thesis at the Theater Department of the Aristotle University, funded by the National Scholarship Foundation (2004-2007). He has also published articles in peer-reviewed journals and books in Greece, France, Romania and Russia. Between 2003 and 2008, he participated as Associated Researcher in seminars and research projects of the Laboratory on Intermediality and the Performing Arts (ARIAS) of the French National Centre of Scientific Research (CNRS), Paris. He lectured at the Theater Department of the Aristotle University (2008-2012, 2016-2017), at the Music Science and Art Department of the Macedonia University, Thessaloniki (2005-2012), at the Theater Department of the University of Patras (2007-2008, 2017-2018) as well as at the Drama School of the National Theater of Greece, Athens (2008-2010). From 2002 to 2004 he worked as Dramaturg at the National Theater of Northern Greece and also taught at the Theater’s Drama School. Apart from his academic work, Efklidis also directs opera and music theater productions. His productions include W. A. F. Handel, Acis and Galatea (Kalamaria Municipal Theater, 2002). Between 2013 and he was stage director in residence in the Greek National Opera. Between 2017 and 2022 he was the Artistic Director of the Alternative Stage of the Greek National Opera.
